Advantages of Earth Shelters
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin
If your ever traveling across the country side you may have the occasion to see a home built into the side of a mountain or someone parked on top of their house, it may seem odd at first but the truth is these Earth Shelters are among the most energy efficient dwellings in the world.
There are many common misconceptions about Earth Shelters or Underground homes. One misconception being that the homes are dark and claustrophobic. The truth is that a well built home will have an open ended face which would has southern exposure. A dome style would have reflective walls which splash natural lighting to every part of the home. They often include skylights which supplements the the internal light and is referred to as co-linear.
Another misconception is that interior air quality is poor due to the lack of ventilation. The implementation of Air exchange systems will demystify this myth and in fact the quality of air is usually significantly better than that of a conventional building.
Many people also believe that an earth sheltered home is cold. If you’ve ever lived in a home with a basement, then you would know that it stays warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. The earth acts as an insulator and maintains a mean temperature of 55 to 60 degrees year round. This geothermal property saves thousands of dollars as well as preserving an abundance of fossil fuels.
In addition to these advantages, earth shelters can be built into the side of a mountain or other landscapes that would otherwise be unbuildable which in turn preserves valuable farm land.

Other advantages include:
- Unparalleled structural integrity making them safe from hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, fire, earth quakes and other natural disasters
- Better land usage (you can park on the roof)
- A significant reduction in utilities and energy costs
- Energy savings and tax incentives
- Insect manifestation is a non issue due to impenetrable shell
- Thieves are less likely to target these homes because of the single open wall
- Pipes will not freeze
- Exterior maintenance is almost nonexistent
The disadvantages are few. These homes are nontraditional and must be planned with extreme caution. A leak due to inproper waterproofing can be a costly fix. Removing tens of tons of earth from the roof can add up to thousands. Another disadvantage may be resale value. Due to the unconventional style, buyer might tend to shy away. lastly, until these homes become a little more mainstream, the initial construction costs are slightly higher than that of a conventional style home.
The long term energy savings and tax incentives far outweigh that initial expense. With the implementation of Wind and Solar Power Generators and the incorporation of geothermal heating and cooling, it is probable that the owners of underground homes will live ‘Off The Grid’ never having to pay a utility bill again. These are true green homes and are the representitive of sustainability.

Memories of My Earth Home 40 Meditations on Our Natural World
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin

Memories of My Earth Home tells the authoras stories of the early years growing up in drought-plagued Texas in the 1950s through the a70s and a80s, living in the country with her children right on the Mexican Border, to her present home nestled among giant native oak trees. The author showcases her various learning encounters with the flora and fauna that thrive in the sometimes inhospitable prairies, hills and fields of her home state. Memories is a tribute to this part of the United States, which is sometimes known as aa whole other country.a And it is a biographical story of the authoras increasing love for Godas creation: the beautiful, natural world around us. The author sprinkles the text with historical highlights, scripture quotes, poems and hymns. All this blends together as a written potpourri, which makes for an interesting and colorful devotional book.

Solar Renewable Energy - Sun Power
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin
It is no secret that the sun can be harnessed to provide a source of energy for homes and businesses.
The sun is a powerful star. It supplies us with energy, through a process called nuclear fusion, and sustains life on our planet Earth. Solar energy, or energy from the sun, has existed since prehistoric times when men would magnify the sun’s energy in efforts to start fires.
The sun is a valuable resource that radiates enough energy on the United States in one day to meet the nation’s needs for one and a half years. Since it is a free, clean and renewable source of energy, it is an energy source that will play a vital role in our future.
Using the sun’s energy for our energy source seems like an easy solution to having an energy supply forever. Harnessing the suns energy is where the problem lies. The sun’s rays shine all over the world and not in just one spot. Although it takes only 8 minutes for sunlight to travel to the earth, trying to catch the rays over such a wide area can prove to be tricky. Also, the energy in any one given place will vary due to factors, such as, clouds and weather conditions.
The history of using solar energy began in 1890’s when solar water heaters were used in the United States. Solar water heating requires a storage collector and a storage tank. Flat plate solar collectors are mounted on rooftops. Pipes carrying water are pumped through these collectors. The tubes are painted black so they will get hot quicker. As the heat is collected the fluid in the tubes get heated. A storage tank holds the hot liquid. This helps with central heating and cutting fuel costs. Solar heaters became popular when natural gas was expensive and burning wood and coals were burdensome. It’s popularity diminished with the discovery of an abundance of natural gas and oil deposits. Now they are making a comeback to replace the depleting fossil fuels that had taken its place.
Solar energy can be in the form of heat energy or light energy. The technology of photovoltaic, or PV as it is commonly called, converts the suns energy into electric currents through the use of solar cells. These electric currents can be used instantaneously or stored for later use. The PV cells consist of pieces of silicon under a thin piece of glass. They have both a positive and negative charge. Simple examples of this are the solar powered calculators that are common today. More complex examples are solar panels placed on roofs. This consists of using thin film solar cells as rooftop shingles, roof tiles, and even glazing for skylights. Unfortunately, the cells generate only about one sixth of the sun’s energy into electricity. This means bigger arrays are needed and along with this come larger costs.
Solar thermal power plants use the sun to heat fluid, which in turn, is transferred into steam similar to fossil fuel burning plants. The steam is transformed into mechanical energy in a turbine and electrical energy from a generator. The downfall is solar plants cannot produce energy on cloudy days.
It is expected the next few years will see millions of households using solar energy. As research continues and processes improve, using our sun as a renewable energy source will produce efficiency and cost savings. So, let the sun shine in and take full advantage of this warm energy source where you live.

Bible Versus Quran Versus Sciences, (3) the Honey
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin
Before dealing with the topic of the Honey in Quran versus Bible versus sciences, it is mandatory to give some statistical hints.
The total words in the Bible are 788,280 while total words in the Quran are 77,473. It follows that, the Bible is more than 10 times the Quran word-wise. In other words, the Bible has the potential of more than 10 times than the Quran to present its topics.
Back to the Honey, it is mentioned in the Bible 61 times and two times in the Quran.
Honey in the Bible
Honey is mentioned in the Bible 61 times
In 20 out of these 61 verses, the bible describes Canaan as a “land flowing with milk and honey” e.g.
Exodus 3:8
So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honeyâthe home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
Exodus 3:8
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
Honey and the lips of a strange woman
Proverbs 5:3
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
One does not know the relation between the lips of a strange woman and the Honey.
Honey and the lips of spouse:
Song of Solomon 4:11
Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.
Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
Upon asking many orthopedic doctors, they deny any relation between the pleasant words and health to the bones.
Song of Solomon 5:1
I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.
In this verse, there is an invitation of friends for food that is comprised of
honeycomb, honey; wine, milk and spice and attended by his sister and his spouse
In New Testament it is interesting to know that John the Baptist wore camel’s hair and subsisted on locusts and honey (Matthew 3:4)
Honey in Quran
Honey is mentioned two times in the Quran, the honey that we use is described in the Quran as a part of the bees’ products while the honey that we have not yet used is described in the Quran as the PURE honey that is present in the paradise.
Honey as a part of the bees’ products
This is the honey present in our life
The Quran describes the process of its formation by bees and the medical values of it and of the other bees’ products.
Surah 16:68-69
“And your Lord revealed the FEMALE Honeybee; build homes in mountains, and trees, and in the hives people built for you.
16-The Honeybee, then to eat of all the produce and fruits (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a fluid of varying colors (and tastes and characters), wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who are thinking”.
The verses not only describe Honey but all the Bees products.
The four main products from the bees are:- Royal Jelly, Bee Pollen, Propolis and Honey.
They have been used for last few centuries by civilizations around the world to treat a wide variety of ailments and medical conditions.
They are multipurpose substances that in some forms can be applied externally to the skin and in other forms ingested as a food or supplement.
Bee Products are Mother Natureâs most incredible gift to our planet, packed with vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids, bee products may provide us with essential nutrition to help with our fast-paced lifestyles.
It follows that the Quran tells us about the healing effects and the medical values of the Bees products that include the Honey.
On the other hand, the Bible says nothing about the Bees products and about their healing effects.
Honey in the afterlife:
In Surah 47:15, Honey is mentioned as a gift to the righteous which believe in Allah.
“(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell forever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)”.
This verse gives us some honorable, belief and scientific hints e.g,
1. The fate of the righteous who believe in Allah is described in short.
2. The incorruptible water and the milk of which the taste never changes indicate that there will be no bacteria in the Paradise.
3. The fate of the unbelievers will be the dwelling forever in the Fire andâ¦
Back to the Honey, the verse tells us in an indirect way about the process of purification of Honey. Since the top kind of Honey will be in the Paradise, and that Honey is pure and clean, hence, we have to look for the methods that purify Honey in our life.
In short, the Quran tells us about the purification of Honey and about the healing effects of the Honey and the other bees’ products.
On the other hand, the Bible never tells that.
Hence, one fair intellectual person has to answer this Dogmatic question:
“Does the Quran quoted or borrowed from the Bible? And which book looks good with sciences? The book which talks about the Purification and the healing effects of Honey and the Bees ‘products or the book which talks about the lips of the strange woman that drop as an honeycomb?. ”

Become A Homeworker To Escape From Your Job
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin
Everyday, all over this great planet Earth, more people leave the office, store, plant, truck and even hospital grind behind to work at home.
It could be on the internet or as a locksmith, plumber, electrician, painter or many more. It will be because we were downsized, outsourced, sick and tired of cubicle hell, or even plain bored although we liked the employees and managers we worked with.
More and more men and women are earning their living by working at or from their homes. Call them job escapee homeworkers. The work at or from home industry is booming with a wonderful diversity of income earning opportunities.
People of all skill and education levels can and do find their personal niches in this immense market. Some highly successful people, like Bill Gates a few months ago, leave just to do something else like charity work. As talented human beings we want to strut our stuff to ourselves, to know we can do it, before retirement day comes up.
The terrible, terrible alternative is to never know if we could of done it, make our own team of independents or not.
Telecommuters
Technology has enabled former office, store, truck and plant rats to do their work at home. Programmers, armed with a computer, fax, and telephone, employees from back office data entry workers to management staff are able to perform part or all of their jobs at home.
The telecommuting option is appreciated by workers as it allows them more freedom and control over the work day and more time to spend with their families. Companies find that this set up often improves employee morale and productivity. Insurance costs and injuries drop dramatically benefiting employers.
Internet Work
Earning money via the Internet has become an explosive popular option in the work at home industry. Chances are you know someone who sells, sold or has bought merchandise on eBay. Many online merchants are working out of their homes.Expert training from successful, experienced salespeople is available, very cheap, all over the world now.
I bet you can find a low cost, good eBay trainer, near to your home on eBay right now.
The amazing Internet offers a wealth of
opportunities for writers to earn a living at the keyboard. People with an Internet based career often start on a part time basis while working their regular office careers.
Once their web job takes off, they escape the office grind for full time work at home. Some people are surprised to find they can write well even though they never had direct writer training. The only way to find out about this field is to give it a try.
Maybe start by rewriting articles for article directories. Would it not be nice to say thank you when your layoff notice comes from management because you are already making the same or more income from home? Shake their hand, give them a hug, and say bye, bye!
Home Base
Still another option in the work at home industry is a home based business aka, job escapee homeworker, where you go out in the field to provide services for customers. This is a wide open opportunity. Imagine any product or service that people need and, voila, you have a business. Include paint, plumbing, electricity and more here.
The senior population is exploding. Lots of us belong to it now. You might consider starting an elder service that helps seniors with light housekeeping, grooming, and transportation. Many seniors, in good physical shape have done this for years for something to do to keep themselves active, be satisfied with life and to have extra income.
Many lonely seniors can afford to pay fair sums of money for people just to read to them, play music and keep them company. If you are a senior already this is an exciting natural for you.
Two career families and busy folks in general equal a business for you running errands such as shopping, chauffeuring kids, and picking up dry cleaning. A little hectic but fun, exciting and you get out everyday.
You can strike out, get outside for sun and fresh air and make extra income, all on your own with these home based businesses or buy a franchise. Franchises offer a brand name people know and trust along with marketing support from the headquarters office.
Be careful of franchises where you work yourself to death with even more work hours than your former, to be, job. Start up costs can be out of reach for a lot of people, however, there are hundreds of franchise options in the work at home industry that will fit with small budgets.
Just do not trade a job for a job business. Be happy and alive at this.

The Honey in Bible and Quran
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin
One of the inherited doctrines of mankind is that the Quran is quoted or borrowed from the Bible. This Dogma is established upon studies of many prejudiced intellectuals which mischief mankind.
In this series of articles, I will try to explore this Dogma on scientific basis to show up that it is forged.
If we study any topic in Quran versus Bible, we will observe the immense dissimilarities in both. If we link such dissimilarities to the sciences, we will realize that sciences are in favor of the Noble Quran.
In the topic of Honey, one may ask this:
Is the Quran quoted from the Bible? And which book look good with sciences? The book which talks about the Purification and the healing effects of Honey or the book which talks about the lips of the strange woman that drops as a honeycomb?

Legendary "Second Summer" Arrives on Oregon Coast
Earth Homes - 1 year ago - admin
It’s likely THE biggest news story about the Oregon coast, yet
it’s one of the area’s biggest secrets: Fall is just the
beginning of some really warm weather, and the start of a load
of features that make this the most inviting time of the year on
these beaches.
This pristine and often wild area, legendary for being among the
cleanest sands in the world, is also completely free to the
public: no one owns any section of Oregon’s coast, and no one
has to pay to play there (except for a few state parks with
minor fees).
Fall is known as the “Second Summer” here: meaning this part of
the Pacific shoreline is at its warmest in September and early
October.
By the time September comes around, the ocean is at its warmest
after being heated up all season. Meanwhile, things get cooler
in the Willamette Valley - on the other side of the coast range
mountains - which evens out the temperature differences between
the two. This allows warmer air flows from the east and from
California to help warm things up even more, as well as causing
the winds to die down in general and decrease fog.
During the summer, those temperature differences drive the sea
breezes and fog. But by early fall, those differences are not as
significant, allowing these factors to come together and making
for sunnier, hotter days than in June through August.
Weather experts say this usually lasts well into October, with
the middle of the month generally being a turning point towards
more blustery weather. However, in 2004, those summer-like
conditions lasted well into the last few days of the month.
On top of it all, this season boasts lesser crowds, lower
lodging prices and fewer cars on the highway - making this the
best time of the year to venture to the Pacific Ocean.
SURPRISES IN SEASIDE
Each town on the coast has its own identity and each experiences
the benefits of the “other summer on the coast,” as it’s
sometimes called. But the resort town of Seaside, on the
northern Oregon coast, has some particularly pleasant amenities
during “Second Summer.” Keith Chandler, manager of Seaside
Aquarium noted he sees more whales wandering these waters at
this time of year than at any other. “Not because there are more
whales,” he quickly adds. “But because less winds make for less
white caps and calmer waters, so it’s easier to spot them.”
At Seaside Helicopters, all these nice days keep pilot/owner
Gary Turel quite busy. The long run of pleasant weather makes
for ideal flying conditions for his aerial tours of Cannon Beach
and Seaside.
This consistently wowing flight lets you glimpse “Goonies Rock”
- which was used in some of the last moments of the cult classic
film. Hwy 101 - just south of Seaside.
www.seaside-helicopters.com. (503) 440-4123.
LODGING SPECIALS ABOUND
In most cases, lodging prices begin to dip sometime in
September, although some businesses don’t drop until October or
later. One interesting rule of thumb is that more expensive
lodgings drop farther in price, while more inexpensive hotels,
vacation rentals or motels drop less.
At St. Bernard’s Bed & Breakfast, you can stay at a real castle,
overlooking Arch Cape and Castle Rock, for less during the week.
After October 1, weekdays are 15 percent off per night
(two-night minimum), and you can get weekends at three nights
for the price of two. Look for East Ocean Rd., just north of the
Arch Cape Tunnel. www.st-bernards.com. 800-436-2848.
At the adorable, family-friendly and pet-friendly San Dune Inn
in Manzanita, prices are anywhere from $95 for two people to
$160 for a family in August. Those drop 15 percent after Labor
Day, and another 10 percent in October. The San Dune Inn
features fun and funky pleasantries like free bicycles, game
equipment for the sand, beach chairs, etc.
www.sandune-inn-manzanita.com. 428 Dorcas Lane. 888-368-5163.
If romance is on your mind, Old Wheeler Hotel presents stunning
views of Nehalem Bay in charming, ancient building so beautiful
it’s been nicknamed the “Westin-Benson of the Oregon Coast.”
Their prices, generally between $80 to $240, go down about $10
in October. They are celebrating Second Summer by allowing
anyone who mentions “second summer” to stay at October/November
rates. Hwy 101 and Gregory. www.oldwheelerhotel.com.
877-484-3843.
At the stunning vacation rental resort of Bella Beach, near
Depoe Bay, prices drop substantially after September 20. These
beautiful homes, just steps away from the ocean, go for 20
percent to 35 percent less. Many homes that were $250 per night
drop down to $175 per night. 866-994-7026 or
www.bellabeach.com.
SECOND SUMMER EVENTS “BREWING” FUN
Sometimes, local events bring out a whole new side to the Oregon
coast’s “Second Summer.” The second weekend of October sees
Newport’s population swell to several thousand more with the
2005 Newport Microbrew Festival as the central coast town
invites you to “Sail On Over for Suds & Surf.”
This theme and title means a bevy of food vendors, assorted
sellers of microbrewed goodness, wine, lots of live music and
arts & crafts - as well as their famed homebrew competition. The
event takes place at Lincoln County Fairgrounds, 633 NE 3rd
Street, in Newport - a charming but bustling burgh that hosts
two lighthouses.
The over-21-only festival happens on Friday, October 7 and
Saturday, Saturday, October 8. Parking is free and admission is
$8. www.newportchamber.org/microbrew. 800-262-7844.
Other discoveries to be made in Newport include the Nye Beach
area, which is an historic section of town that reigned in the
early 20th century as the “Honeymoon Capitol of the World.” It
still retains its ancient vibe and strong sense of romance.
While there, don’t miss either Village Market & Deli or Blu
Cork Wine Bar, both on SW Third, a street which deadends over
the beach. Village Market features gourmet lunches that are
becoming legendary in the state, including a Tuscan Turkey that
has quite the zing to it thanks to a bit of wasabi. It’s
innovative and full of subtle layers. (541) 574-9393.
Blu Cork Wine Bar boasts an incredible interior of earth tones,
a heady selection of mostly Northwest wines, and a dizzying menu
of delicious items like a duck pate that is so light and smooth
it threatens to levitate out of your mouth. 613 SW Third Street,
Newport. 541-265-2257.
